New subscription-based platform will offer authentic, unique content
MONTRÉAL, June 7, 2021 - Vrai, Videotron’s brand new subscription streaming service, today announced five new original docureality, documentary and lifestyle competition productions that will enhance its line-up of high-quality entertainment and information content. The new programs will soon be available to subscribers.
Vrai will feature unfiltered, straightforward, unaffected productions that people can relate to. Subscribers will find engaging, candid characters, moving true stories, and also lesser-known personalities who will make them think and transport them to strange and wonderful worlds.
Inspiring original productions for all tastes
The five new programs, all produced in Québec by local talent in collaboration with Quebecor Content, will deal with subjects and issues that Quebecers care about. The diverse content – about attachment to the land and animals, local production, entrepreneurship, human relations, health and wellness – will pique the curiosity and satisfy the need for guilty pleasures of one and all.
De pied ferme, produced by IMPACT TV and directed by Sofi Langis, is an unfiltered exploration of the daily lives of the people behind Québec’s most important industry: agriculture. The six 60-minute episodes, written by Alexandra Cliche-Rivard and Sofi Langis, will show what it really takes to feed Québec: hard work, resilience, creativity and a high tolerance for stress. Poignant testimonials and reflections on the agricultural crisis, the labour shortage, food safety and difficult conditions will be on the menu in this unique, surprise-packed and sensitive look behind the scenes at Québec’s farms.
For animal-lovers, the documentary series Elles parlent aux animaux, produced by Sphère Média, developed by Marie-Ève Lemieux-Potvin and directed by Brian Desgagnés and Noémie Jolicoeur-Laforest, will introduce viewers to six women who specialize in animal communication and have made it their mission to help humans communicate with their furry, feathered and scaly friends. The animal whisperers communicate telepathically with cats, dogs, horses, sheep, wolves and seals, and then carry their responses back to their human companions. In twelve 30-minute episodes, they will meet animals from across Québec – from the Gaspé Peninsula to Frampton and the Montérégie – and use their talents to improve the animals’ well-being. A little-known and mysterious subject that will intrigue viewers.
On another theme, the Québec adaptation of the Danish format Big Love, entitled Le poids de l’amour, will appeal to fans of shows about the human experience. This worldwide hit, adapted for Québec in a Mustang Productions series directed by François Péloquin, is about body transformation but also about relationships. Couples try to lose weight in order to rekindle the flame of love. The six 60-minute episodes will follow three couples who have gained weight during their relationship and want to make a change. Over the course of several months, they will attempt to break old habits and make positive lifestyle changes in an effort to revive their love and mutual attraction. Universal themes such as rediscovering passion, self-esteem and self-awareness will be addressed in this series about people striving for wellness and health for themselves, but also for their relationship. Le poids de l’amour is about not losing the love of your life.
Tatoueuses, produced by Sphère Média and directed by Marie-Pier Diamond and Capucine Powers, is a candid, no-holds-barred look at the friendship between six dynamic, modern, authentic women who work in a tattoo parlour in Saint-Georges de Beauce. In eight 30-minute episodes, this documentary series follows daily life at the salon and the evolution of the unique, often chaotic relationship among six women with strong, unique personalities. Viewers will see them support each other through ups and downs, love affairs, family life and conflicts. There will be rock music, eccentric personalities and straight talk. The lives of these six women are anything but ordinary!
Lastly, Tous au jardin!, directed by Sébastien Chabot and produced by Trio Orange, is a new lifestyle competition hosted by Madeleine Péloquin in which three families embark on a big landscaping project and vie for the $15,000 grand prize. The contestants do the work themselves with advice from two experts, builder Jean-François Couture and horticulturalist Guillaume Pelland, who suggest environmentally responsible alternatives to standard practices. The participants aren’t just laying out a yard; they’re creating a unique new living space that respects nature. Tous au jardin! reflects the strong public interest in landscaping, gardening, growing one’s own vegetables and food self-sufficiency. Filming is already underway.
Vrai will go live in late summer with thousands of hours of all-French, on-demand content, including more than 40 first-run exclusive original productions by the end of 2021. More announcements coming soon.
