Rogers Communications Inc., Shaw Communications Inc., the Shaw Family Living Trust, and Quebecor Inc. today announced an agreement to extend the outside date of the proposed merger of Rogers and Shaw and the acquisition of Freedom Mobile by Videotron Ltd., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Quebecor, to March 31, 2023.

Rogers Communications Inc. (“Rogers”), Shaw Communications Inc. (“Shaw”) and Quebecor Inc. (“Quebecor”) today announced that they have entered into a definitive agreement (the “Agreement”) for the sale of Freedom Mobile Inc. (“Freedom”) to Videotron Ltd., a subsidiary of Quebecor (the “Freedom Transaction”), subject to regulatory approvals and closing of the merger of Shaw and Rogers announced on March 15, 2021 (the “Rogers-Shaw Transaction”).

Videotron extends suspension of international calling charges to Ukraine
To support the Ukrainian community, Videotron is extending the lifting of toll charges for calls from Canada to Ukraine until October 31, 2022. Our customers will be able to continue calling family and loved ones in Ukraine without worrying about international calling charges.

Rogers, Shaw and Quebecor announce agreement for sale of Freedom Mobile
Rogers Communications Inc. (“Rogers”), Shaw Communications Inc. (“Shaw”) and Quebecor Inc. (“Quebecor”) today announced an agreement (the “Divestiture Agreement”) for the sale of Freedom Mobile Inc. (“Freedom”) to Quebecor, subject to regulatory approval (the “Freedom Transaction”). The Freedom Transaction will ensure the presence of a strong and sustainable fourth wireless carrier across Canada. The parties strongly believe the agreement effectively addresses the concerns raised by the Commissioner of Competition and the Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry regarding viable and sustainable wireless competition in Canada.

Videotron welcomes Federal Court ruling against Xperi
Videotron is pleased with last Friday’s Federal Court decision in its dispute with U.S.-based Xperi (formerly known under the names Rovi and TiVo) over the alleged use of patented technology in Videotron’s illico viewing platform. Those patents have now been declared invalid.

Videotron’s first Ford E-Transit electric vans enter service
In another big step forward for Videotron’s green shift, which is a cornerstone of Quebecor’s vehicle electrification plan, the very first Ford E-Transit electric vans have been added to Videotron’s fleet. The service vehicles, first of an order of about 100, will make their appearance on Québec roads in the coming weeks.

Videotron offers newcomers from Ukraine six months of free mobile service
Videotron is reaffirming its support for the Ukrainian community with a gesture of welcome for temporary displaced Ukrainian citizens during their first months in Canada. Starting May 9, newcomers from Ukraine will be offered a free All-Inclusive 20 GB plan for six months to help them stay in touch with family and loved ones. Videotron is also donating 1,000 refurbished mobile devices to the Ukrainian Canadian Congress and its partners, to be given to Ukrainian families in need.
