In February 2020, Quebecor announced an ambitious plan to switch its entire vehicle fleet over to electric in the next few years. For Videotron, this means purchasing new electric cars and converting its light trucks from gas engines to electric. We’re pleased to announce that we took delivery of our first electric trucks in recent weeks. After successful testing, it’s official: you can now see our technicians on the road in our electric trucks!
Taking action now
The number of electric vehicles on Québec roads has grown in recent years. However, there is still limited to zero supply of the type of vehicle that the vast majority of Videotron’s teams use for their daily work. So to follow through on our pledge to electrify our vehicle fleet, we’ve taken the bold step of converting our trucks. The procedure involves replacing the truck’s gas engine with an electric motor. Not only does this solution make it possible to convert our fleet to electric earlier than if we waited for the auto industry to come out with electric light trucks, it also extends the service life of our vehicles, reduces the carbon footprint associated with purchasing new vehicles and supports local businesses. We have partnered on this venture with the Québec company Ecotuned.
Videotron leads the way
Videotron is leading the way as the first telecom in Canada to make a concrete commitment to electrifying its vehicle fleet. Our people’s ingenuity and Québec’s know-how in electric transportation have made it possible to turn this vision into reality.
You’ll be seeing more and more of Videotron electric light trucks on Québec roads. You’ll recognize them by the “On roule électrique” signs on both sides of the truck.
