Montréal, May 27, 2020 – As part of the #culturedici campaign Quebecor unveiled on April 29, Videotron is promoting Québec movies and talent, in association with Éléphant: Memory of Québec Cinema. Every Wednesday during the summer, Videotron will offer a themed selection of films showcasing a Québec director or actor who has shaped our cinemascape. The films will be available to rent in the #culturedici section on Helix and illico.
“In line with our commitment to supporting and promoting Québec culture, we are launching a new initiative today as part of the #culturedici campaign in order to encourage Quebecers to discover or rediscover our rich cinematic heritage,” says Pierre Karl Péladeau, President and CEO of Quebecor. “I am proud that our Éléphant project is part of this effort, which is in lockstep with its mission to share the many films that have marked our history and made us proud. In these times, we need to support our local culture and artists. The best way to do it is by viewing made-in-Québec works on made-in-Québec platforms!”
The first Québec film personality to be featured in the weekly series is Denys Arcand, one of Québec’s greatest directors. Some of his best films are now available for rental, including Réjeanne Padovani (1973), Le déclin de l’empire américain (The Decline of the American Empire, 1986) and Jésus de Montréal (Jesus of Montreal, 1989).
“This is just the beginning; in the coming weeks, Denys Arcand will be followed by 13 more Québec filmmakers and actors,” says Caroline Paquet, Videotron’s Vice-President, Marketing and Content. “This will be a fantastic opportunity on all of our platforms to revisit works that have had an impact on our culture.”
To enhance the experience and enrich the journey of discovery, movie buffs will also have access to supplementary content from the Éléphant team, including exclusive interviews with the featured directors and artists on the Éléphant: Memory of Québec Cinema website.
