Montréal, November 8, 2017 – Videotron launched its own mobile network in September 2010. Today, the Québec-based telecom provider has 1 million residential and business subscriber connections to its mobile telephone service. In addition to building out an extensive, state-of-the-art network in record time, Videotron has carved out a place for itself in the telecom industry's big leagues. But over the course of seven years of fast-paced growth, Videotron's commitment to innovation and customer experience has never wavered.
As we look back over the road we have travelled since our launch in 2010, we are filled with pride, said Manon Brouillette, President and CEO of Videotron. A million thanks to our clients. They are the ones who push us to do better every day. This is an important milestone for Videotron and for each of its 6,500 employees, without whom this ambitious project would not have been possible.
Changing the rules of the game
From the moment it entered the mobile space, Videotron energized the Québec marketplace. The new player set itself apart from the dominant mobile carriers with original campaigns and a series of firsts. Determined to offer the most innovative mobile service on the market, Videotron quickly made its presence felt and consumers have been responding positively for the past seven years.
Forward-looking
Videotron is upbeat about the future. The company plans to continue pushing the mobile tech envelope by densifying network coverage, increasing download speeds and reducing latency. The recently introduced Voice over LTE (VoLTE) feature is a good example. This new generation of mobile voice services provides eligible users1 with improved indoor coverage and faster call routing. And on calls between Videotron customers, users will experience unprecedented high-definition (HD) sound quality, directly on the LTE network.
Videotron is also girding for the technological revolution that is coming with the advent of 5G and the Internet of Things. The company is currently making major investments in its infrastructure to support future demand and is actively involved in R&D. Among other things, Videotron is actively involved in the Open-Air Laboratory for Smart Living where it is working with the other partners to propel Québec into the technological world of the future, for the benefit of consumers.
As the world becomes ever more connected and mobile, the telecommunications industry is entering a decisive phase. We are determined to be on the front lines and to continue innovating to meet the many challenges that lie ahead, added Manon Brouillette.
