28th edition of Ma première Place des Arts
MAtv showcases emerging Francophone musical talent
Montréal, February 23, 2022 – Starting Saturday, March 12, at 8 p.m., MAtv will broadcast the quarter-finals and finals of the 28th edition of Ma première Place des Arts, hosted by Olivier Robillard Laveaux. Twenty-four contestants from across Québec—6 singers and 18 singer-songwriters—will perform live from Salle Claude-Léveillée at Place des Arts, under the musical direction of Guillaume Rochon. Produced with the participation of the Société pour l'avancement de la chanson d'expression française (SACEF), the popular event has been a springboard for emerging Francophone music for over 15 years.
“Giving young artists exposure is at the heart of MAtv’s mandate,” says Steve Desgagné, MAtv’s Senior Director. “Thanks to this valued partnership, we can offer hundreds of talented young singers from across Québec a unique space of performance and experimentation that spotlights the richness of our culture.”
A weekly treat for music lovers
In addition to giving emerging artists a chance to shine before the general public, the seven episodes of Ma première Place des Arts will take viewers behind the scenes with exclusive comments from the members of the jury: Josianne Paradis, Tristan Malavoy and Félix Dyotte for the quarter-finals, and some 20 members of the arts and culture community for the final.
Ma première Place des Arts is a great opportunity to develop and professionalize young talent, says Jocelyn Ménard, general manager and artistic director of SACEF: “Emerging artists are given a unique chance to show what they can do under the best possible conditions and make connections that can change the course of their careers.”
As a long-time partner of the contest, MAtv will have the honour of awarding a $500 purse this year to one contestant in each of the two categories, singer and singer-songwriter, to reward them for their performance on the stage and on TV.
The quarter-finals and finals will be broadcast on the entire MAtv network starting Saturday, March 12 at 8:00 p.m., and repeated on Sunday at 7:00 p.m. and the following Saturday at 9:00 a.m.
The grand finale of the contest, in which the finalists perform for the title of winner in the two categories, will be held on Thursday, May 19 at Théâtre Jean-Duceppe. The 88-minute, commercial-free broadcast will air on MAtv starting Saturday, June 4 at 8 p.m.
