Montréal, January 13, 2022 – Matv’s winter schedule, which starts on January 24, reflects the diversity and richness of local culture, featuring bevy of festivals and cultural events such as the Festival Quartiers Danses, MUZ 2021 en spectacle, Vue sur la Relève and Fantasia...tout court!, as well as the show Nomad Spirit about inspirational Indigenous personalities. The local news programs Mise À Jour and CityLife will be back to keep viewers informed and provide in-depth coverage of neighbourhood issues.
With COVID still with us, Videotron’s community channel will let viewers experience Québec arts and culture without leaving the comfort of their homes: “The arts are the living, breathing expression of our community’s full diversity,” says Steve Desgagné, MAtv’s Senior Director. “They speak to Quebecers of all origins and brings us together across physical distance.”
Culture any way you like it
The Festival Quartiers Danses makes its eagerly awaited return to MAtv on January 24 with a 10-episode series featuring shows from the festival’s 19th edition. Dozens of young choreographers and dancers perform for audiences in an urban environment – in Montréal neighbourhoods, parks and streets – to democratize contemporary dance and bring it to local communities. Hosted by actor-dancer Marc Béland, the show will air on Thursdays at 8 p.m. in the Montréal area and on Saturdays at noon and 11:30 p.m. across Videotron’s Québec-wide network. Watch the trailer.
MUZ en spectacle 2021, a six-part series produced by Vision Diversité, gives viewers front-row seats to a major fusion music event. In its 11th edition, the festival continues to bring audiences the best of a Montréal-based musical movement influenced by music from around the world and to immerse them in the world of its artists. Saturdays at 9:00 p.m., repeated on Fridays at 8:00 p.m. Watch the trailer.
The 10-part series Vue sur la Relève, hosted by Marieme Ndiaye, will mark the 25th anniversary of the festival of the same name by presenting some 20 artistic performances and exploring the artists’ work: their creative process, their themes and their collaborators. Saturdays at 11:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m., Fridays at 9 p.m. Watch the trailer.
Movie buffs will enjoy Fantasia...tout court!, an arts series that presents dozens of short films produced and directed by up-and-coming Québec filmmakers screened at the 2021 Fantastiques week-ends du cinéma québécois. They run the gamut from comedy and fantasy to horror, animation, drama and the absurd. Starts on Thursday, January 28 at 10 p.m. in Montréal and on Sunday, January 30 at 9 p.m. across Québec.
LeZarts’ volunteer contributors will be back starting February 17 with artist profiles, museum visits and arts events and activities that Montrealers can enjoy safely.
The richness of Indigenous culture
Inspirational Indigenous personalities will share their stories and talk about their lives with host Ligia Borges in Nomad Spirit, the English-language version of Esprit Nomade, which aired at this time last year. Produced by Land InSights and one of its co-founders André Dudemaine, the six episodes feature moving personal accounts from Nico Williams, Craig Commanda, Barbara Diabo, Lori Beavis, Martin Loft and Lydia Etok. Starts Tuesday, January 25, 9:30 p.m., in the Montréal area. On Thursdays at 10:00 p.m., viewers can watch rebroadcasts of Esprit nomade, followed by the new episodes of Nomad Spirit.
Public affairs programs are back
Host Richard Dagenais and his cast of regular contributors will return on CityLife to talk about the things that matter to Anglo-Montrealers. Public affairs issues will be addressed in an accessible and engaging way that gives viewers food for thought. Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m., repeated at 11 p.m.
Stéphanie Gagnon returns to helm the daily citizen-centric public affairs program Mise À Jour and update viewers on the latest news. She and her team report on the issues that affect Montrealers’ daily lives, covering the neighbourhood news the networks often ignore. The events of the day are discussed in relatable terms and issues in transportation, the environment, the economy, immigration, governance and culture are put in perspective. Mondays at 6:30 p.m., repeated at 11 p.m.
