Coming soon to the new Vrai streaming service
MONTRÉAL, June 10, 2021 - The Vrai platform, dedicated to original, exciting and surprising Québec productions, has announced a new event-based docureality series: Le dernier glacier. Subscribers to the new streaming service will be transported into an epic and historic adventure as explorer couple Vincent Colliard and Caroline Côté attempt the first North-South winter crossing of Spitsbergen, an island in Norway’s Svalbard archipelago.
Produced by Toast Media in collaboration with Quebecor Content and directed by Arnaud Bouquet and Caroline Côté, this captivating series will follow the two extreme explorers for over two months as they travel a distance of more than 1,000 kilometres, entirely on their own, in the dead of the polar winter. As it covers their preparations, their daily lives during the expedition, and the challenges and dangers they confront, including icy winds, bears and poor visibility, the series will show mutual aid, unwavering commitment and two people testing their limits. The remarkable feats depicted and the questions raised in the six 30-minute episodes will entertain viewers, make them think and take them to places they have never been before. Against the backdrop of breathtaking landscapes, the expedition will illuminate the state of the planet and the effects of global warming in polar regions.
Inspirational explorers
Vincent Colliard has dedicated his life to exploring the most inhospitable polar regions. He wants his accounts of his travels to raise awareness of the human footprint on the environment and accelerating climate change in polar regions. Originally from France, Vincent has undertaken expeditions to the most inaccessible places in the world, such as the North Pole, Patagonia, the Himalayas and Antarctica. In 2014, he cofounded the Icelegacy project, which involves crossing the 20 largest ice caps on the planet and collaborating with the scientific community.
Caroline Côté is an internationally known Québec adventure filmmaker and photographer specializing in images of expeditions under extreme climatic conditions. She recently took part in the Pull of the North expedition, following the Yukon River for over two months and travelling by canoe through Alaska to Indigenous communities. Her mission is to encourage people to learn about nature conservation and experience the thrill of adventure. She wants to spur women to get out of their comfort zone and push their limits.
Vrai will go live in late summer with thousands of hours of all-French, on-demand content. Le dernier glacier is one of more than 40 first-run exclusive original Québec productions that will be released by the end of 2021. More announcements coming soon.
